Hand Skills for Laying Loose Gold Leaf

Lynne Rutter Studio is pleased to host master gilder and exceptional teacher, Jill London, for this a special class of gold and metal leaf gilding.
Develop your hand skills with genuine and imitation gold leaf, using a gilder’s tip, a gilder’s knife, a skew brush and a gilding pad.
This class is geared to folks who want to learn skills in working with loose leaf and applying both quick and slow size on boards for future gilding work. This will be a two day class implementing gilding techniques and stencils. Students can use stencils provided and learn how to make their own stencils free hand. Each student will work on their own boards and complete at least two pieces which will serve to remind them of what is possible! Students will learn how to use both single and double tips and improve their methods for cutting and applying loose leaf to a flat surface.
Class is open to anyone who is interested in learning about the gilding arts as well as experienced gilders. If you want to becoming more proficient with loose leaf with a trained teacher with over 35 years experience as a professional gilder and painter, join this class!

Society of Gilders members: $725 ($50 discount)
Includes materials paper, size, shellac, composition leaf (gold, copper, and aluminum) one book of 23K gold leaf and one book of Manetti palladium leaf.
Tool Kit:
$125.00 includes 2 Gilder’s Tips, 1 gilder’s mop, 1 sable brush, gilder’s pad, gilder’s knife. (Students may bring their own if they have them)

Space is limited and advance registration is required.

- Deposit class fee of $500 to reserve your place.
- Remaining class fee will be due one month before class begins. Class fees will be non-refundable after this date.
- If you need gilding tools, please order them before November 10, 2024 and your kit may be shipped to the studio.
- You do not need to purchase tools if you are bringing your own!
- Note that this is a working studio with concrete floors. Please be dressed for working in a studio.
